Doris goes to Ocean Reef

It's the end of May now and we are two weeks away from flying home for 3 months. The weather here is in the 80's every day and we haven't had rain in a very long time. The trees are all in bloom and are very beautiful.
This is Diane, a fellow boater on Adanac, and Anth playing Bingo. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon at 2:30 we play Bingo free and we have won many FABULOUS prizes, like, rum, tshirts, Ocean Reef hats, water bottles and pens. It has been a lot of fun with Charles leading it. I didn't think I would ever play Bingo on a regular basis.

This is Anthony, Ester, me and Charles. Ester runs the bar where we play Bingo and Charles is the entertainment convener for all of Ocean Reef. He does a FABULOUS job and keeps us all happy. Ester makes amazing bread, hamburgers, breakfasts and club sandwiches. Both Charles and Ester are great people and make Ocean Reef a great place to be.

Doris came to visit. Yeh....for two weeks.

We met Barb and Larry Large down in Port Lucaya. They were on a cruise that stopped in Freeport so we arranged to meet them and have a visit.

Here we are Larry, in his Dreds, Barb, Bohdan, Doris and Anthony. What a great bunch.

This boat was captained by an older fellow, in his 70's. He had been sailing non stop on the ocean for 10 days and he fell asleep and sailed over or into the reef. It put some big holes in the bottom of his boat. The salvage man, Garry, pulled him up on shore to do repairs. It looks pretty sad but the end of the story is a happy one.

The day we went down to look at the boat was a very, very windy day.

This is a Haitian cemetery where a number of Haitians that were on a boat drowned and they were buried here, on the beach up from Bikini Bottoms.

Look at those white caps....a very rough day on the sea.

This is another view of the Haitian Cemetery.

This is another view of Hornblower, the boat that went on to the reef.

They used these huge pillows to prop the boat up so that they could repair the bottom.

These three guys were waiting for the repairs to be finished and they were going to help tow it back out to sea at high tide so that he could float over the reef and not hit it again.

Me on the beach.

As we were walking back from the boat this guy in the wet suit came ashore to sell his wares: lobster, fish and conch. We bought 4 lobsters but didn't have a bag to put them in so wrapped them up in Anthony's tshirt. Bohdan and I cooked them back at his condo...what a great supper.

Can you see the conch and the fish and the lobsters?

Barry's birthday, we had a Birthday Potluck at Ester's Bar and dressed up. Barry is another boater here from Burlington.

Here we are making music, Hank up front on the 6-string, Anthony on the 12 string and John Lodge from Toronto on the Banjo. Hank and Diane are boaters here from Ontario too.

Hazel Whyte with her new Lunar guitar. Isn't it beautiful. She is a Scottish songwriter and singer.

Here is Hornblower being towed into Ocean Reef with big pillows on it's sides to keep it afloat. It is repaired now and needs a few more small repairs and back on the ocean it goes.

This is Garry the salvage guy and the guy who will tow you off reefs and to shore and back home to your dock if needed. Interesting boat shape? I think he designed it himself. He lives just around the corner from us on the canal.

This is Leslie the local fisherman who takes people out on his boat. He is docked just 2 docks down from us. His wife is from Canada, Elliott Lake. He's a great guy and has two great sons, Adam and Brian.

Bohdan and Sarah at Zorba's Restaurant in Port Lucaya.

John Lodge at Zorba's.

Sunset off Bohdan's deck at the back of his condo.

You can rent horses and ride on the beach and through the woods too.

Doris and Anthony on the beach by Island Seas.

This is the bartender at the Conch Hut on the beach. We had a great fish and chicken meal here with rice and peas, coleslaw, fish and or chicken. He was a great guy. Unfortunately when the 2 tornadoes came through they blew his hut away and all the furniture so he's not there any more.

We're back at the Garden of the Groves. Here is that young heron.

The waterfalls are so beautiful there and the sound is so calming.

Here is Doris at the back of the little chapel there.

The labyrinth....I walked it every time I was there.

Doris and Bohdan.
Mike and Ron's birthdays. Another Boaters Potluck to celebrate two birthdays.

Mike and Ron, both boaters, both from Ontario.

Marion, from England, Anthony and Taffey from Port Credit, Ontario. Taffey has a boat at Ocean Reef and Marion owns a condo at Darshana, right beside Ocean Reef.

Dick and Diane....the story behind these tshirts is one summer Dick took all the women of the men that were racers in his club out on his boat for the last race of the season. There was a tshirt contest and all the women wore shirts that said, "Will Sail For DICK!" and Dick wore a tshirt that said, "I'm DICK". They won the contest. Great idea, eh?

We're out sailing on Sarah Jones' boat and here is Sarah diving in and Bohdan is the next to go in.

He didn't dive....he did a cannonball.

Doris enjoying the sail.

Bohdan and Sarah swimming in the ocean, it was too cold for me so I stayed on the boat.

Me and Anth.

Me, Anthony and Doris on Sarah's boat.

Bohdan sleeping in the quarter berth. He was too tired to move the stuff in the quarter berth so he just laid on top of it and went to sleep. Crazy guy.

Do these boats look like they are going to collide?

Great picture of Bohdan.

and Me. We took Sarah's boat down to Peterson Cay and anchored and stayed overnight. It was a very interesting time. 5 adults on the boat all with different ideas as to what makes a nice weekend at Peterson Cay. We also wanted to help Sarah practice sailing more and anchoring. It was a great time.
